Excelsior Vintage Jazz Band
Over 20 years ago Mike Brown, using some of the best British exponents of this style of music available, formed the Excelsior New Orleans Brass Band.
For a breif period in the late 80's and early 90's a complete New Orleans Package Show ("Echo's of New Orleans") was staged at a number of venues throughout the UK and Europe and it was here thet the Excelsior Vintage Jazz Band concept was born; giving two and sometimes three different bands within the brass band.
The Excelsior Brass Band has continued to play at outdoor and promotional events but the Excelsior Vintage Jazz Band virtually disappeared until the early part of 1998, when Ron Rumbol re-formed an all star band working as a regular performing 6 piece jazz band.
The band has gone from strength to strength playing on the jazz club circuit and at most of the major Jazz Festivals in the UK and Europe, as well as private funcyions and one or two prestigious weddings.
Their previous recording "Blowin' a Storm", is still selling like "hot cakes". It was reviewed in the April 2001 "Just Jazz" magazine, and is still available on cassette tape. By popular request their latest recording was done live at The Waterworks Jazz Club, Birmingham and has been on sale since February 2003.
